Longtime brick and mortar computer and electronics retailer CompUSA is going out of business. Following the closing of 126 stores in February of this year, the remaining 103 stores will be shuttered after the holidays. After years of sagging sales, customer complaints and financial troubles, CompUSA was sold by Mexico based U.S. Commercial Corp S.A.B. de C.V. to Gordon Brothers, a firm that specializes in liquidating failing businesses. Remaining stores and units of the business will be put up for sale after the closings.
A significant factor in the troubles facing the chain was competition from online retailers. In many cases CompUSA could not compete with the deep discounts for computer equipment found on the Internet.
