Mobile Analytics Dashboards Microsoft Power BI

Cloud Business Intelligence: 4 Ways Microsoft Power BI Stacks Up

Mobile Analytics Dashboards Microsoft Power BI

Microsoft’s general manager for business intelligence, James Phillips, said, “I came to Microsoft largely because Satya convinced me that the company was all in behind date.” For every byte that customers store in a Microsoft product, he added, “we’ll help you wring every drop of value out of that data.” That’s what a great cloud BI solution should provide.

Collecting/Aggregating DataAlthough the use cases are broad and benefits far-reaching, the overall executive value-add of cloud BI is facilitating business growth. Every cloud BI solution has three basic functions:

  • Analysis

  • Dashboarding/Reporting

Any BI solution in the game is good at collecting and aggregating data – Power BI included.

The strengths of Power BI are in the overall analysis and dashboarding due to the following four factors:

  1. Familiarity. Because Power BI uses Excel for collecting and analyzing data, it eases integration. Employees are working in an environment in which they are already comfortable. This familiarity will drive user adoption, and when new employees are hired, it reduces the number of new solutions that have to be learned and will greatly reduce the time it takes for proper training.

  2. Cost. This is one of the areas where Power BI blows the competition out of the water, and this is in part due to Microsoft’s new “One Microsoft Solution” approach. Instead of distributing their technology a la carte, Microsoft understands that there is no one size fits all and that organizations thrive on a cloud-powered, centralized hub where data can be collected and analyzed in order to provide clear executive vision. Both as a standalone and especially when paired with an Office 365 subscription, Power BI requires a minimal price increase per account – much less than competitors in its class.  Also, Power BI reduces the amount of services cost for ad hoc security integrations because it is already part of the overall Microsoft solution that starts with identity management via Active Directory.

  3. Integrated Analysis and Reporting. Strong and customizable reporting and analysis is at the core of Power BI. Better yet, all dashboarding is automatically integrated into SharePoint, in which – especially for Microsoft-based organizations – is where most analysis and data sharing occurs in an organization anyway. This saves organizations from building out complicated integration to access external software.

  4. Collaboration. Not only is the cost minimal, but organizations have the option to only purchase licenses for managers or analysts. These users can share reports out to the rest of the company, and other employees can access the insights without a Power BI account.

SADA Systems most recently helped WASH Multifamily Laundry Systems drive rapid growth by providing real-time results for each of their 70,000 locations and 500,000 washers and dryers, allowing them to understand business challenges, provide solutions, and improve overall business efficiency. Allan Villegas, CFO for WASH, explained, “The beauty of Power BI is that employees are creating reports themselves without involving the IT team and sharing those reports with colleagues. This is extremely powerful for us.”
