Office 365 update: SharePoint Online includes Yammer conversations!

Microsoft Office 365 users can now enjoy real-time document collaboration with SharePoint Online, by opening up Yammer conversations directly in your documents! Recently announced on the Office 365 Technology Blog, now you and your team members can quickly move forward on a project’s progress and increase engagement and innovation with one-on-one conversations – simply enable Yammer as your default social network.

Start a Yammer conversation for any document stored in either your SharePoint Online libraries or SkyDrive Prio – simply click Post! Post is a new command available in your document library callouts and search results for Office documents. Using Post allows peer-to-peer communication with context delivered straight from the working file – increase visibility around deadlines, deliverables or other critical elements of your document text!

Here’s how you can start a conversation in SharePoint Online:

  1. Click Post

  2. Type your message with an @ to mention your team members

  3. Use key hashtags or topics where appropriate and select a group

When your post shows up in Yammer, it will contain a link to the document in SharePoint Online – and for organizations worried about content management governance policies, your content does not leave SharePoint Online, so your company’s workflows remain intact.
